The Senior Accountant position is a full-time year-round position and reports directly to the Controller. Major responsibilities include the school’s payables function, managing the school’s participation in its credit card programs, and performing general accounting functions and financial and analytical work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage accounts payable, including invoice coding and processing, ACH maintenance, 1099 statement issuance, positive pay maintenance, and other details.
Manage the corporate credit card accounts, including distribution of month end statements to cardholders, collection of reconciliation reports and supporting documentation and posting the card activity
Record general ledger transactions via journal entry.
Maintain fixed asset detail schedule. Regularly reconcile to general ledger.
Assist with the tuition billing during student enrollment annually.
Manage the depositing of funds received at the school.
Manage the school’s petty cash and perform reconciliations quarterly.
Assist auxiliary programs with accounting support and manage needs as they arise.
Assist with monthly closings and analysis, including distribution of reports to budget managers.
Assist with annual audit.
Learn and occasionally perform functions of other employees within department.
Proactively seek and propose process improvements and automation.
Provide support to Controller, Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
Promote the school’s statement of mission and philosophy.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

Attends School Functions as needed
Attends Chapel
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for overseeing accounts payable. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar. CPA license or pursuing preferred
Minimum two years of experience in staff accountant or senior accountant role
Experience in fund accounting working in an independent school is a plus
Experience performing or supervising payables function
Experience with integrated accounting software systems including accounts payable and general ledger
Experience working in a company with a minimum $25 million in annual revenue and 100 employees
Computer proficiency, including MS Word and MS Excel, collaboration software and Google suite (display of experience with MS Excel will be required for onsite interviews)
Ability to use basic office equipment
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally communicate with outside vendors and the entire school community, including staff, faculty and parent volunteers
Must have excellent Microsoft Office skills; advanced proficiency in Excel is required
Must possess a strong knowledge of accounting theory, experience with journal entries, account reconciliations and month end and year end close processes
Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely manner
Must possess strong communications skills, both written and oral; articulate in translating accounting vernacular to others who are not accountants in order to conclude quickly on problem resolution.
Must be able to manage difficult situations while always being respectful and even tempered.
Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information
Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time effectively and efficiently
Must be able to switch between unrelated tasks seamlessly and quickly in order to keep up with daily required tasks
Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality
Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback
Ability to work both independently and with supervision
Responds well to criticism and deals successfully with challenging people and circumstances
